Serving the people of Corby

Loss of Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West

Corby Town Council would like to pass on its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West. We were deeply saddened and shocked by the terrible events of 15th October and pay tribute to Sir David, who was a highly regarded MP by colleagues from all sides of the political spectrum. He devoted himself to the people of Southend West and was a strong advocate for many causes, including human rights, health and wellbeing and animal welfare. The country has lost a loyal, committed public servant and he will be sadly missed by many.

The Leader of Corby Town Council Cllr Matt Keane says 'Words can't describe the shock and sorrow I felt when I heard the news about the killing of David Amess MP. This is another dark day when one of our public servants have been killed doing the job we elect them to do, serving constituents. Politicians are rightly scrutinised and challenged about decisions they make. I know first hand what it's like to be at the other end of someone of a different view but respectful debate is essential to our values. Most people who enter public life across the political spectrum do so to try and change things for the better. My deepest sympathies go to David's friends, family and constituents today. This truly was a heinous crime.'
